About Petersburg, IN - Happy to be your hometown Plumbing Contractor!

Petersburg is located in Washington Township, Pike County, Indiana. Petersburg serves as the county seat of Pike County, the 84th largest county in Indiana. As of 2010, the City of Petersburg had a population of approximately 2,383 people.

In 1817, Petersburg was laid out and named in honor of Peter Brenton, an original owner of the land upon which the city now sits. Since 1823 Petersburg has maintained an operating post office.

Industry in Petersburg primarily consists of two coal-fired power plants. Both Hoosier Energy and Indianapolis Power and Light own generating stations within two miles of Petersburg’s city limits. Also, due to the city’s small size, Petersburg is a wonderful place for small and new business owners. The city aims to invest in businesses that are invested in the local community by supporting local businesses and programs such as the Pike County Chamber of Commerce, which assists new community businesses and hosts local events to promote spending within the community.

Many notable people have begun their lives in the City of Petersburg. The city is the birth of notable musician Jody Davis, journalist and politician John W. Foster, professional athletes Gil Hodges and Joe Wyatt and also physicist and scientist Melba Phillips.

Petersburg is located in a climate that experiences cold winters and warm summers. Daytime temperatures throughout the winter months do not often climb above the low-40s and tend to dip well below freezing at night. Although weather throughout the summer months is usually mild, the city is not immune to heat waves. By hiring HVAC technicians to install cooling units in homes, residents will help ensure they and their homes remain cool and comfortable throughout the summer season.
